In this class we will show you how to access your direct experience so that you can discover what this world really is. Here you can find a never ending fountain of fascination and joy that’s right before your eyes. You do not have to be a spiritual genius to find this. All you have to do is know where to look.

Makingyourwisflamebig Now for today's blog on reality
Today Brigit, my wife, and I were talking about the new online games and chat rooms. They are getting more sophisticated with graphics that represent you. These graphics can hug you, high five you, and perform many different actions.

But the interesting thing is that the more you hang out in these online rooms, the more normal and natural they seem. The interaction of these characters seems just as real as our everyday interactions. The online games that people play like pool and chess seem just like the physical ones.

Where our senses are that seems real
Brigit reminded me that this is a great opportunity to see where our sense of reality comes from. We know the world because of the input from our eyes, ears, nose, taste and touch. In our mind we put these senses together and these impressions form our world. There is one other ingredient that goes into making our world. We take these sense impressions to be reality.

From here it appears that the world that provides us with our sense of reality. But there are little cracks in our experience. When we examine it we start to wonder if our sense of reality is actually coming from what we see. As an example, even though the characters are completely different in an online chat room, from within the experience they seem real.

When you dream, the dream becomes reality
More universally, from within a dream, the dream seems like reality. In your dream you don’t run around proclaiming, “This is just a dream world, it isn’t real” Even if you did your dream characters wouldn't believe you. To them the dream world seems normal and natural. After all their parents and grandparents all live here, and their children were born here too.

Moreover, when you enter deep dreamless sleep all of the worlds seem to disappear. But you don’t panic and think, “I had better get back to the world so I can find reality again.” Although everything objective has disappeared, it doesn’t feel as if reality disappeared.

Padmasambhava When you meditate on reality the world changes
This is why as you meditate and begin to wake up from this world, your experience of the world begins to change. As your identity begins to shift from the limitations of the body and mind to the awareness that sees them, you become the reality that you thought you saw.

And the most amazing thing about all of this is that the very nature of the world starts to shift, right before your eyes. The world that was at a distance comes right inside. And yet it all seems perfectly normal. That’s because you get to see what has always been true. Indeed your Consciousness is the support of the whole universe. It’s ordinary and extraordinary both at the same time.

It is from here that you get to see the universe for what it is. Imagine, the universe for all its vastness and majesty is only a speck in your Consciousness. One of the many benefits of meditation is that you get to see this first hand as your direct experience.
